Queen of Exotica

Possessing a range of four octaves, this attractive, mysterious singer catapulted onto the American music scene with an album called Voice of Xtabay that topped the U.S. charts in 1950. Her burgeoning fame led to appearances at the Hollywood Bowl and Carnegie Hall. Everything surrounding Yma Sumac had an air of mystery about it. She was said to be a descendant of the Inca Kings; her exotic repertoire was supposedly based on Inca legends; and she was purported to have been born in a tiny village in the Peruvian high Andes.

This CD is a super way to discover Yma’s unique vocal abilities.
